Hunza remain almost cut off till 1974 from the main civilization till completion of the 8th wonder the Karakoram highway. Now one can reach here with all comfort. Sections of ancient silk routes, carving on the rocks, early inscriptions and hunting drawing for the information of early traders, pilgrims and invaders can be seen at most places. A 600 years old Baltit fort is the former palace of the rulers till 1960s and now open to visitors.
